A book recently published in Britain is called They Call Me Naughty Lola - The London Review of Books Personal Ads: a Reader.
It's a collection of some of the best personal ads from the London Review of Books, a fortnightly magazine. They are very different from what you'd read anywhere else. Here's a sample:
"Bald, short, fat and ugly male, 53, seeks short-sighted woman with tremendous sexual appetite."
"Bastard. Complete and utter. Whatever you do, don't reply - you'll only regret it. Man, 38."
"Romance is dead. So is my mother. Man, 42, inherited wealth."
Or the woman who is
"intelligent, austere and mentally troubled like all good fortysomething women should be".
This week a former school classmate died, and an old friend had a breast off. In comparison, I am such a fortunate creature.
My only real complaint is that my old posts from Germany have been receiving masses of German spam. Clever multilingual spammers.
So I have had to turn on comment moderation for commenters. It was either that or make people do the word verification thing.
